Free Project Management Templates

18 free templates covering the full project life cycle, from project charter to closure report. Fill them in right here and download a Word document or an Excel-ready spreadsheet, or download them blank. Nothing you type is sent to us: your entries stay in your browser.

What is included

  • Initiating: Project charter, business case.
  • Planning: Scope statement, communications management plan, stakeholder register, RACI matrix, WBS dictionary, activity list and schedule, budget and cost tracker.
  • Executing and monitoring: Risk register, issue log, change request form, change log, weekly status report, meeting agenda and minutes.
  • Agile: Sprint retrospective.
  • Closing: Lessons learned register, project closure report.

How to use the templates

  • Documents (charter, business case, status report and others) download as a .doc file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice. You can also print them or save them as a PDF.
  • Registers and logs (risk register, RACI, stakeholder register and others) download as a CSV file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. Click any cell to type, and add as many rows as you need.
  • Each template says when to use it, and the example rows show the level of detail to aim for. Adapt the headings to your organization's standards and methodology.

Exam tips

  • The project charter formally authorizes the project and is signed by the sponsor, not the project manager.
  • A risk is an uncertain future event. Once it happens, it becomes an issue and goes in the issue log.
  • Changes to approved baselines go through integrated change control: assess the impact, then get a decision before you act.
  • A RACI matrix should have exactly one Accountable person for each activity.
